TASTELESS
Client: Jeff Cerulli and Matt Ritter
Animation + Storyboards + Art Direction: Mark Aguilar
For the documentary film Tasteless, I created animated segments to support interviews about the bestselling 1980s book series Truly Tasteless Jokes.
I was tasked with developing the look, storyboards, character design, and animation, mixing hand-drawn and modern techniques (Animate + After Effects).
The result is a cohesive set of segments that add clarity, texture, and pace without breaking the documentary’s tone.
STYLE FRAMES
The paper texture and the degenerative look to the segment were inspired by the cheap paper the books were printed on and the degenerate nature of the jokes themselves.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
Keeping with the overall theme of degenerative, I wanted the characters to look like silly doodles a person may draw in the margins of a book or a post-it note.
